Abstract art studio course with Colin and Toby: Lower Slaughter

Set in the picturesque heart of the Cotswolds, this three-day creative retreat invites you to explore the world of abstract sketching and painting. Hosted at the iconic Lower Slaughter Village Hall, artists Colin and Toby will lead you through innovative methods to translate natural scenery and urban landscapes into dynamic, expressive artwork.

Course Overview & Daily ScheduleDaily sessions run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, structured to break down different abstract techniques each day:

• Morning Workshop (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM): Focus on core abstract concepts, mark-making techniques, and structural composition.

• Lunch Break (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM): Time to relax, recharge, and connect with fellow participants.

• Afternoon Workshop (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM): Practical application of morning concepts, capturing landscape and architectural forms with close tutor guidance.

What Is Included & What to Bring

• Included: Full tuition, along with tea, coffee, and light snacks throughout the day. Supplementary technique materials are provided at the venue.

• What to Bring: Sketchbook, watercolour paper (A4 and A3 sizes), watercolours, sketching pens, and watercolour pencils. Any questions, just send us an email.

• Facilities: The village hall features an accessible kitchen and fridge for storing lunches. A local pub is located nearby, with additional shops in Bourton-on-the-Water (a 5-minute drive or 30-minute walk away).

• Parking: Parking is available directly in Lower Slaughter village.

• Where to Stay: Nearby options include boutique hotels in Lower Slaughter, local Airbnbs in Bourton-on-the-Water, or various hotels in Cheltenham (a 20-minute drive away).

UK Event Booking Terms & Conditions

1. Booking & PaymentBookings for UK-based workshops and events are made directly with Toby Haseler trading as Sketch Loose (Sole Trader). Full payment is required at the time of booking to secure your place.

2. Cancellation & Refund Policy

• More than 6 weeks’ notice (42+ days before the event start date): You are eligible for a full refund if you cancel your booking more than 6 weeks prior to the event.
• Within 6 weeks of the event (less than 42 days): Bookings are strictly non-refundable. Because venue hire, guest limits, and preparation costs are committed in advance, we cannot offer refunds, partial refunds, or date transfers within this 6-week window regardless of the reason for cancellation (including illness, travel delays, or personal circumstances).

3. Ticket Transfers & Name ChangesIf you cannot attend and it is within the 6-week non-refundable period, you are welcome to pass your ticket on to someone else. Please inform us via email at least 48 hours prior to the event start date with the full name and contact details of the person attending in your place.

4. Event Cancellations by Sketch LooseIn the rare event that a workshop must be cancelled or rescheduled by Sketch Loose (e.g., due to tutor illness or severe venue issues), you will receive a 100% full refund of the workshop fee or the option to transfer your place to a rescheduled date. Sketch Loose cannot be held liable for any independent travel, accommodation, or incidental costs incurred.

5. Personal Belongings & InsuranceWe strongly advise all participants to take out personal insurance to cover independent travel, accommodation, or last-minute personal cancellations. Participants remain responsible for their own art supplies, personal property, and belongings throughout the duration of the event.
