Join artists Colin and Toby for a three-day workshop exploring abstract sketching and painting techniques at the iconic Lower Slaughter Village Hall. Focusing on both natural and urban landscapes, this hands-on course offers expert tuition, structured daily sessions, and tea, coffee, and light snacks. This course is designed for people with some sketching experience looking to experiment beyond basic techniques.
Set in the picturesque heart of the Cotswolds, this three-day creative retreat invites you to explore the world of abstract sketching and painting. Hosted at the iconic Lower Slaughter Village Hall, artists Colin and Toby will lead you through innovative methods to translate natural scenery and urban landscapes into dynamic, expressive artwork. We will cover a mixture of watercolour and ink techniques over the first two days, with the final day focussed on self-exploration of these ideas and techniques.
Course Overview & Daily Schedule
Daily sessions run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, structured to break down different abstract techniques each day. Pre-Workshop Coffee (09:30 AM - 10:00 AM): A chance to chat and relax before we get stuck into the rigors of the day!
Morning Workshop (10:00 AM – 12:30 PM): Focus on core abstract concepts, mark-making techniques, loose watercolours, and other ideas..
Lunch Break (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM): Time to relax, recharge, and connect with fellow participants.
Afternoon Workshop (1:30 PM – 4:00 PM): Practical application of morning concepts, capturing landscape and architectural forms with close tutor guidance.
What Is Included & What to Bring
Included: Full tuition, along with tea, coffee, and light snacks throughout the day. Supplementary technique materials are provided at the venue.
What to Bring: Sketchbook, watercolour paper minimum 300gsm (A4 and A3 sizes, or larger), watercolours, sketching pens, and watercolour pencils or inktense pencils. Any questions, just send us an email.
Optional: Indian ink or acrylic ink, dip pens, bamboo pens, crystalline watercolours (these will be provided at the venue)
