This online course is designed to help you find your creative flow and build confidence with ink and watercolours. Join Colin and me for a practical, live online series of workshops where we focus on energy, expression, and the joy of sketching without the stress of perfection.
Week 1: The beauty of the loose line. Focus on letting go of perfection.
Week 2: Sighting your perspective. Learn to see angles naturally without complex math.
Week 3: Capturing nature and textures. Master loose pen work and layering for trees and water.
Week 4: Editing and simplicity. Learn what to leave out to make your sketches pop.
Week 5: Bold colour and atmosphere. Use big washes to create light and shadow.
Week 6: The grand finale. Combine every skill to create a vibrant, full scene.
This is a live, online course over a period of 6 weeks. We meet every week for a 90 minute session where we demo the techniques and you sketch along with us. Most weeks both Colin and Toby will be there to lead the session, there may be occasional weeks where only one of Colin or Toby is present.
Live sessions. We go live at 20:00 BST every Tuesday.
Preparation. We will send out the meeting link and the reference photos the day before the lesson via our WhatsApp group.
Recordings. If you miss a session, don't worry. Each lesson is recorded and will be available for you to watch for one week after the live date. These recordings are private and must not be shared outside of our group.
Feedback. We will provide feedback, again via our WhatsApp group usually on Sunday or Monday following the lesson giving you a week to absorb and play with the ideas.
To get the most out of the course, you will need to join our private WhatsApp group. This is a brilliant space to share your work and stay inspired. On our dedicated prep and feedback days, Colin and I will be in the group to look at your trials and offer encouraging, practical advice to help you improve.
We want to keep things simple and fair for everyone. Please note that once the term has started, no refunds will be given for missed lessons. Since you have access to the recordings for a week, you can still catch up on any content you might have missed. If you are not able to proceed with the course prior to commencement a full refund will be given up to 1 week prior to commencement. After this, refunds are not guaranteed.
